Otter Messer Mercator Pocket Knife Black

The American GI's brought this Mercator knife to America after World War II. There it became famous under the name "Black Cat Knife" and is still cult there today. The designation K55K means "K" for Kaufmann (the original manufacturer), "55" for Hochstrasse 55 (the original company address) and "K" for the symbol cat. The embossing is stamped under the press and after powder coating it is painted by hand as in the past.

The Otter company was founded around 1840 in a small "Kotten"—a traditional water-powered grinding shop—at the Königsmühle in Solingen. Its name comes from the fish otters that lived on the banks of the streams and rivers in the region "Bergisches Land" at that time. These decorate the products as the logo of the company. The pocket knives and knives with fixed blade are manufactured in Solingen in the traditional way. Even today, the pocket knives and fixed-blade knives are still produced and sharpened by hand with great care. Mostly equipped with carbon blades, these knives have an excellent cutting durability and testify robust quality. Made in Solingen/Germany.
