The original Hippekniep (goat knife) pocket knife from OTTER is a simple and robust knife. Rough handling and tough jobs like leverage work caused the blades of the classic predecessor models to loosen. A sturdier solution had to be developed: the rivet holding the blade firmly in position now comes equipped with a large semi-circular rivet in a broad casing. When needed, the rivet can simply be hammered in deeper if the blade begins to loosen after extensive use.

The Otter company was founded around 1840 in a small "Kotten"—a traditional water-powered grinding shop—at the Königsmühle in Solingen. Its name comes from the fish otters that lived on the banks of the streams and rivers in the region "Bergisches Land" at that time. These decorate the products as the logo of the company. The pocket knives and knives with fixed blade are manufactured in Solingen in the traditional way. Even today, the pocket knives and fixed-blade knives are still produced and sharpened by hand with great care. Mostly equipped with carbon blades, these knives have an excellent cutting durability and testify robust quality. Made in Solingen/Germany.
