This is one of the most beautiful planes still out there today. The very distinctive Douglas DC-3 also know as the Dakota or Skytrain was developed in 1935 out of its predecessor the DC-2. The DC-3 became iconically bound with WW 2 as this was the plane Airborne troops would have jumped out of over occupied France and The Netherlands.

The civil DC-3 was originally build as a sleeper plane for the long trans-atlantic flight between the US and Europe. It revolutionized commercial air transportation in the 1930 and 40s. Today there are still quite a few operational DC-3's. The Dutch Dakota Association for example still offers flights with this exact machine. It can sometimes be seen right over our heads in the centre of Amsterdam.
