The Orange-breasted Waxbill is called ‘Goudbuikje’ in Dutch, which translates to Golden Belly. A great name for this tiny gem. The birds measures less than 10cm and weighs absolutely nothing. It has a huge population range – over 10.000.000 square kilometers in sub Saharan Africa. Like many of its small seed-eating relatives this waxbill lives in great flocks that concentrate their foraging on seed rich grasses and bushes. Imagine having such a great little bird flying around in your backyard.
