We were pretty pleased with finding this piece. Listed as B-3, it turned out to be a D-1 instead! This jacket was the lightweight version of the much more common (but still quite rare too) B-3. It was primarily issued to ground crews, but pilots took to the jacket since it was so much lighter than their B-3's. This jacket was most likely worn by a pilot because it features the still very well preserved US Army Air Force decal.
The jacket has been very skillfully restored in some places leaving the original character very much in tact. It still has a readable label and even the original chain for hanging the coat is present.
This is quite a collectors piece, but can be worn when properly handled.
